Hispanics Making History

Gaithersburg, MD (August 10, 2010). The City of Gaithersburg will recognize the contributions and culture of influential Hispanics with “A Walk Down Memory Lane – Celebrating Hispanics Making History.”  This Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, hosted by the City’s Multicultural Affairs Committee, will take place on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in the second floor Gallery at Gaithersburg City Hall, 31 South Summit Avenue.  Please join us as we honor the achievements of some of our nation’s Hispanic leaders and celebrate Hispanic culture.

An official proclamation will be issued at the Mayor and City Council meeting, declaring September 15 to October 15, 2010 as Hispanic Heritage Month in the City of Gaithersburg.   The proclamation will be received by Judge Roberto Morales, Esquire, a distinguished former Chief District Court Judge and retired Security and Exchange Commission attorney who now provides pro-bono legal assistance to Maryland residents in need.  Among the Hispanic leaders to be highlighted will be José M. Hernández, NASA Astronaut and recipient of the NASA Service Award, Dr. Hernán Padilla, retired physician, 1st Hispanic President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, and former two-term Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic woman appointed to the Supreme Court of the United States.
